Tennessee fans of the HGTV series “Flip or Flop” may be interested to learn that Christina El Moussa filed divorce documents in mid-August, about six months after her husband Tarek El Moussa filed for spousal support. Christina requested joint legal and physical custody of the former couple’s two children.
In addition to also requesting child support from her ex, she asked that the court to turn down his request for child support. Further, she requested that he be responsible for her legal fees and costs associated with the divorce.
Tarek and his former wife have been reportedly splitting custody of their 6-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. Although Christina was said to be in a relationship, the two have continued to be involved with the children by doing daily low-key activities, such as ice skating and swimming. The former couple also still star together on their hitseries. Tarek said that it was a priority for the former couple to avoid fighting over the children, as he believes that this can have a major negative impact on them.
Although divorce can be difficult for any couple, it can be even more complex for those who have children. For example, in addition to dividing up marital assets, former couples with children also have to determine custody, create a parenting plan and have a court determine child support. A family law attorney can help a parent negotiate a parenting plan that benefits the children and allows the parent to maintain a strong bond. If the other parent is unfit to raise a child, the attorney may also assist with seeking sole legal and physical custody and have control over the decision-making regarding health care and education.
